Just catching up.

Wow, been away for a few days.  Where have I been?  Nowhere, just felt lazy and didn’t post anything.  Went to the doctor the other day.   Blood pressure was good and both I and the doctor were pleased with that.  But, the doctor checked my blood sugar and we found out that I’m a borderline diabetic.  Not good!  But what really pisses me off is that I had blood drawn almost a year ago and besides the normal stuff they check when one is on blood pressure medication, I had them check my thyroid.  The reason I wanted my thyroid checked is because I sweat profusely.  Even when I’m just sitting around doing nothing I can break out into a clammy sweat and it’s very uncomfortable and embarrassing, at least to me it is.  Anyway, my sugar levels were obvious last year when they did the blood work.  So my question is, why didn’t the doctor contact me then so I could start doing something about it?  Ok, it’s considered “borderline” but if I had taken some preventive measures last year, by now, it would be back to normal.  I’m upset, but at the same time, relieved that we now caught it and I can move forward with prevention.

Well, now I have another project to work on.  Bought some new tile for my upstairs bathroom floor and will start working on that on Monday.  That I’m going to do myself as it’s just that self-adhesive tile that’s easy to do.  I just have to make some templates for around the base of the toilet and vanity, but that’s no big deal.  I’ll have to post some before/after pictures when I’m done.  Thank goodness it’s not a big bathroom.Winking smile

Hope everyone has a great weekend.  Be safe this Halloween.

Finally got all my odd jobs done.

Well, after waiting all this time I finally got all those odd jobs done.  Got my vanity top on (looks beautiful), got the loose tiles set, got my new front porch light installed and got the gutter on the garage tightened up so it won’t hang down once we start getting snow.  Plus got the new kitchen faucet installed.  All that work and Armando only charged $60.00.  It’s hard to find handy-men who do a good job and are inexpensive.  So, now I’m done for this year.  We’ll have to see what next Spring/Summer brings.  Ahh the joys of home ownership.

Ordered a new laptop from HP yesterday.  I have an HP netbook, but am going to give that to a friend for Christmas.

It’s a beautiful day here today.  Right now it’s 72º F.  It’s supposed to be warm again tomorrow, but the weekend is supposed to be really cold.  We may experience our first frost.  I hope I can get all my plants in before that happens.

Hope everyone has a fantastic week.

Still waiting to get my bathroom finished.

The handyman who has been doing all the odds and ends stuff around here didn’t show up on Thursday because of car trouble.  Same thing happened on Friday and on Saturday I tried to call him and if he was still having car trouble I would have gone to pick him up, but it just went to voice mail, so I just gave up.  Today is definitely out so I’m hoping that tomorrow will be a better day and I’ll finally get to see the bathroom finished.  It’s not a lot that he has to do to finish.  A new shut-off valve and put a new top on the vanity.  And of course re-install the new faucet he installed about a month ago.  Then he can take his time on the other little stuff I have that I want him to do.  Stuff that will take only a few minutes to fix.  Like check the rear doorbell, install a new outdoor light, check the gutter on the garage, etc..

Been some beautiful fall weather we have been having lately.  Starts out cool and then warms up nicely.  That’s great because cool nights and warm days are what makes the trees have such beautiful colors.  Am going up to Wisconsin next week to a place called Holy Hill.  It’s a Catholic church up on top of a hill that was placed in the care of the Discalced Carmelite Nuns in 1906.  You can read the whole story here.  The trees should be in full color about now so it should be a very beautiful trip.  Hope the weather holds up and I hope to get lots of beautiful pictures.  I’ll include them in my blog for all to see.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic Sunday and a great week.

First full day of washing done.

Well, got all the washing done with the new washer and dryer and it just amazes me how the clothes can get so clean with so little water.  And both the washer and dryer are so quiet.  What a difference from the old stuff.  The dryer was here when I bought the house, which was 24+ years ago, so I’m thinking that the dryer must have been at least 30 years old.  But it still worked like a charm.  They just don’t make them like that anymore.

It was a magnificent day today.  In the 80’s and the humidity was low so it just made for a fantastic day.  Too bad I had the washing to do, otherwise I would have found something to be out and about for.  But, since I’m such a creature of habit, I have to do the laundry on Saturday.  Can’t be done any other day.  I did do the area rugs yesterday, but that’s a normal Friday cleaning thing.

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Finally got my dryer installed.

The handyman came by again this afternoon to finish up the installation of the dryer.  Man did he have a job.  I don’t know who installed the other dryer vent, but they sure did a bad job.  More twists and bends than I think were necessary and since the other vent was plastic, it was easier to bend.  This new one is metal and he really had to fight with it, but he really knows his job and got it done and now I can wash clothes tomorrow.  And he only charged me $40.00.  Of course I fed him spaghetti and a beer, so that was part of the payment.  Winking smile

Washed some small rugs this morning just to see how the washing machine works and it was like watching a TV commercial.  Talk about a bunch of whirling and twirling of the drum.  But it got them clean and that’s all that counts.  Only thing I don’t really like about it is that they INSIST that you only use HE (High Efficiency) detergent.  I didn’t even know that HE detergent existed.  I’ll have to look at the labels the next time I go to the store.  It’s probably just another way to get more of my money.

Hope everyone has a beautiful weekend.

Another day without my dryer.

Well, my handyman came today but ran into problems so we had to go to Home Depot to buy a whole bunch of stuff and ended up spending $360.00.  I tried to find a replacement cartridge for a Moen kitchen faucet, but they didn’t have any.  I had checked online, but since I didn’t have the model number and it’s quite old, the model isn’t even shown on the website, so had to get a whole new kitchen faucet.  So, tomorrow we’ll try it again and see what happens.  I just hope I can get it installed by Saturday otherwise I won’t be able to wash.

Going to redo the the cabinet and sink in the main floor bathroom.  Just going to paint the cabinet and put in a new top and paint the side wall cabinet too.  Then in the bathroom on the second floor I’m just going to repaint the cabinet and install a new medicine cabinet and maybe a new tile floor, not sure yet.  Then I’ll be done for a while, I hope.

Hope everyone has a great Friday.

Got my washer and dryer today.

Well, finally got both delivered today but they couldn’t set up the dryer.  Seems that the plastic vent that I have is out of code and has to be replaced with a metal one, so had to call my handyman and he is coming tomorrow to replace the old one with the new one.  But they did install the washer and when they gave me the User’s Manual I thought they were giving me a copy of War and Peace.  Surprised smile

The washer actually weighs the clothes to know how much water to use.  I haven’t actually washed any clothes yet, but I am very interested to see how it washes without the agitator that I’m so used to seeing in my old washing machines.  So I’ll have to shoot a video and post it here.

That’s about it for today.

Yesterday was just grocery shopping day and took advantage of lots of specials.  Yellow delicious apples were $.39¢/lb, jumbo eggs were $.69¢/dozen.  And of course I was hungry when I shopped, so bought lots of stuff I don’t need.  I guess I’m too old to re-train myself to shop on a full stomach.

Hope everyone is having a great week.  Only two more days to go till the weekend.
