I’m not, but then I never am. LOL Did anyone go out shopping today, Black Friday? I was going to try to get to Kohl’s but didn’t feel like getting up at 2:00 A.M. I really don’t need to buy anything anyway, so it would have been just to check out the crowds. I know, that’s crazy, but then no one ever said I was all there.
So, did everyone have a nice Thanksgiving? You didn’t overeat did you? Now that’s a crazy question. Of course you overate, just like I did. Well, I didn’t really overeat as much as I normally would on Thanksgiving because I’m trying to lose weight and since I was diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic, really need to be careful. I’m trying to control it so I don’t have to go on medication or injections. I mean, it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but if I can avoid it, I will. I know a lot of diabetics lead very normal lives.
Other than that, there’s nothing really going on of any consequence. I know I write a boring blog, but I know a lot of others that are worse.
Hope everyone has a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous New Year.
Well, finally got my new laptop and got it all set up the way I want it. First thing I do is get rid of all the “crapware” HP and every other manufacturer installs on their computers. Why do I do that? Because most of it I’ll never use so why keep it and let it take up hard drive space? Besides, there’s a lot of duplication. Windows comes with a decent media player so I don’t need two or three other ones. I use Windows Live Essentials, so don’t need any other software for making movies, editing pictures, etc. I use Microsoft Security Essentials which is free, so don’t need to pay for any other anti-virus software. I just wish there was a way to order a computer without all that junk, but they just won’t let you. They say it’s all free, but who do they think they are kidding?
Other than playing with the laptop, oh and I forgot one other thing. I had AT&T Mobile Broadband, and it was kind of slow, so I bought a Netgear WNDR3700 wireless dual band router and boy what a difference. Connecting at 50Mbps as compared to 3Mbps is fantastic. And since I do a lot of testing of different things, it really is nice. And the Netgear router was really easy to set up. Only thing is, if I had been leasing my modem from Comcast, they would have given me a wireless router for free. Oh well, can’t have everything I guess. Here are the speeds I get http://results.speedtest.comcast.net/result/54211242.png Pretty impressive huh?
Is anyone else just tired of all the drama that surrounds our everyday lives? I am. Getting tired of the Federal/State/Local/ governments telling me what I should or should not eat. I’m referring to the stuff going on out in California (the whole state is weird anyway) especially in San Francisco about wanting to ban McDonalds Happy Meals because of the obesity problem in the U.S. They are going about it all wrong. They need to spend their time and money in re-educating the parents on how to say NO once in a while. It’s really the parents fault that their kids are obese. The kids eat what is given to them and if the lazy parents just want to shut the kids up, they’ll give in to them and stuff their little mouths with McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, etc. I’m not saying that any of those fast food restaurants are bad, in moderation of course. But a treat once in a while, like every couple of weeks is NOT going to make your child obese.
They also need to educate the parents that once they get married and have children, it’s no longer just about them, it’s about family. Spending quality time with the family is of the utmost importance. Once that stops that’s when the problems will start showing up. Parents not being around to supervise their children’s eating habits is one of the major causes for their obesity. Kids are not going to help themselves to the healthy food, they are going to go for what they like, not what’s good for them. So parents, make sure you are around when your children are hungry and prepare something for them, and I don’t mean just opening a can either. Actually cook something. My goodness, what a radical idea. I know what a lot of folks are going to say. My job takes up all my time, or my social life takes up all my time. Well, when you have a family, they are to come first. Make them your job and your social life.
Sorry for the rant. I was going to write about other things that are drama filled, but don’t want to turn this into a book. But if you finished reading this, thank you. If you agree or don’t agree I would appreciate it if you would comment, please. And NO I don’t have any children.
Well, the cool weather has started here in the Midwest. Woke up to freezing temperatures this morning. Thank heavens all the plants are in and safe for the winter. Now the house looks like a greenhouse. That’s ok, saves a lot of money in the spring. I have all of the begonias, geraniums, impatiens, etc. under grow lights so that when I take them out in the spring, they are already flowering. The other large plants are in my dining room where they get lots of sun. I have hibiscus flowering all winter. Here’s a picture:
This was taken in December. Everyone I showed it to was amazed at how it was flowering indoors. Well, actually, so was I. This year, I won’t see any blooms on this plant because I had to prune it quite a bit. It was getting too “leggy”.
Don’t forget to set your clocks back this weekend. Daylight saving time ends Sunday at 2:00 A.M. And have a great weekend.
Well, got my new laptop yesterday (HP dv7) and spent most of the day setting it up and deleting all of the “bloatware” that comes with a new unit. Some of it I left on because I’m not sure yet whether I’m going to use it or not. Some of the movie making stuff I got rid of because I use Windows Movie Maker, which is so easy to use. And needless to say, what I’m using right now to post this blog is one of the easiest pieces of software to use, Windows Live Writer. Of course all of the Windows Live Essentials are easy to use. If you haven’t tried it, you should. Same goes for Microsoft Security Essentials. You just download it and install it and let it do its thing. I hope that when this gets published that this font isn’t too big. On this laptop, with a resolution of 1600 x 900 it looks just right for me.
Tomorrow have to have a repairman in because the 55” LED TV upstairs is having a problem and I need to get it taken care of before the warranty is up on the 25th of this month.
My prayers and condolences go out to Linda Schaibley who’s mother passed away last week. Linda is the wife of my nephew Rick.
Hope everyone is having a great week.
