Another rant!

Well, I finally decided to switch from Verizon to AT&T – AGAIN!.  I went for the Windows Phone 7 and was disappointed.  The phone was not at all user friendly and they no longer put any user manuals in the phones, so you’re basically on your own as to how to set the phone up.  So if you don’t download the user manual from the internet, you’re screwed.  So, I took it back the next day and got another Android phone, the Samsung Infuse.  Nice phone and a nice big 4.5” Super Amoled Display.  The camera and video are fantastic.  We went down to the planetarium the other evening and shot some pretty decent videos and took a couple of passable pictures.  Even though it was dark, they turned out fairly decent.  So, as I said, I’m back with AT&T and not going to change ever again.  The call quality is much superior to Verizon and Sprint and I don’t know why I was so stubborn and switched.  Live and learn I guess.

Then today I had to call DirecTV again because they hadn’t refunded me cost of my “free” movie nor the $1.50 they charged because I ordered it over the phone.  The young man I spoke to with the name of “Deshawn” was apologetic and said that the $5.99 for the movie would be on next month’s bill but they weren’t going to refund me the $1.50 for the phone call.  He said it should have been done using the internet but every time I tried to do that, I kept getting errors that the request couldn’t be processed, so how could I have don’t it on the internet?  So after giving him an earful about my being a customer for over 16 years and they couldn’t afford to give me $1.50, he agreed to give me the rebate.  It’s just terrible the hoops you have to jump through to get anything done anymore.

Well, I hope that’s all the aggravation I’m going to have for a very long time now.  I just can’t take it anymore.  Hope everyone else is having a much better time.

Continuing tech saga.

Well, I thought my saga with the phones and computers was over, but I guess not.  Verizon still doesn’t seem to care that I can’t get service inside my house.  They send out an engineer and he says that the signal is great “outside”.  When I try to tell them I don’t live “outside” and that I need service “inside”, their attitude gives me the feeling that they think I’m strange because I want service inside my home.  My goodness, there must be something wrong with me.  Surprised smile  They convinced me that what I needed was a Network Extender and it would be just like having a cell phone tower inside my home.  Yeah, right.  So I spend $249.00 for that stupid Network Extender, get it home and plug it in according to all the instructions and it don’t work.  So I log on to the internet and check out Verizon Support and Netgear support and follow all suggestions and it still don’t work.  I left it on all night to see if it would finally sync up and nothing, so I returned it and got a credit.  I don’t know what I’m going to do, but I can’t switch because I’ll be hit with over $600.00 in Early Termination Fees.  I just don’t care for Verizon’s attitude but they just don’t seem to care, so I guess I’ll have to wait until 2012 to switch.  Ok, one rant done.

Then there’s the problems I’ve had with my computer.  First, my desktop started to just hang whenever I clicked on anything, be it via the browsers or just in Windows.  So I called HP and the person I spoke to came to the conclusion that it was the motherboard so she made arrangements for me to send it to Texas to have it replaced.  So, off it goes to Texas.  I get it back in 3 days and all they did was reload the operating system.  I got back on the phone and spoke to a different tech person and she is beside herself as to why the first tech person said it was the motherboard.  So we did more diagnosing and of course it was the hard drive, and then it dawned on us that I have in-home service and the computer is still under warranty, so they had a service man come out to replace the hard drive.  Ok, I’m now a happy camper again.Open-mouthed smile  Then the other day, the internet stopped working and after doing some diagnosing and calling Comcast we discern that it’s the Ethernet card that has died.  So I get on the phone again with HP and they make arrangements for another tech person to come and switch out the motherboard because the Ethernet card is integrated into it.  He shows up today and it takes him 2-1/2 hours to get the board installed.  I was about ready to scream.  But he called someone and they walked him through getting it finished and I’m again a happy camper.Open-mouthed smile

I hope this is the end of it.  Hope everyone else is having a much better time of it.

Follow up of the Sprint Debacle

I ended up cancelling Sprint altogether.  I received a letter from some Customer Service person and would you believe, he couldn’t even  get my name right.  Addressed me as Theresa Flahey.  Who in the hell is Theresa Flahey?  In the meantime, I had ordered another HTC EVO 4G phone (I guess I’m a glutton for punishment) and after all these problems called to cancel the phone.  I was told that it was in the warehouse and it couldn’t be cancelled.  Well, lo and behold, the next day, it was delivered and I of course refused delivery.  I never received any information that the phone had been shipped and their website was never updated.  Since UPS didn’t provide me with any documentation regarding the shipment refusal, I called Sprint again to get a tracking number and of course I spent over 1/2 hour trying to convince the rep that it had indeed been shipped.  He had to check I don’t know how many different systems to get the information.  I’m glad I cancelled them, now I have to wait to get my refund for the phones.  I hope that goes through without a hitch because I dread the thought of having to call them again.

As I said, I cancelled Sprint and went with Verizon and this time went to an actual retail store and got a fantastic Retail Sales Rep, Chris Sullivan.  What a pleasure it was to do business with him.  He made sure I understood everything about the Plan I was signing up for and for the phones.  Even downloaded some stuff from the Verizon Market for me, saving me the time.  Then, after getting home and thinking about the amount of money I was going to be shelling out every month, decided that I was going to change my plan.  I went back to the store and Chris was just as professional as he was the first day and changed my plan for me with no problem.  So far the service has been great and I pray it stays that way.  Signed up for Family and Friends yesterday and found out that three of the numbers I wanted to add are already in the Verizon network so didn’t have to add them.  That’s great.  Can call those numbers any time I want with no long distance charges and no minute usage.  Super plan.  Thanks Verizon.

Ok, rant done about Sprint.

Well, holidays are finally over with

Christmas and New Year’s have finally come and gone.  Christmas eve we just stayed home, just like on Christmas Day.  Very uneventful.  New Year’s Eve was spent with family and friends in Whiting, IN and we had a wonderful time.  Drank a few too many “Palomas” though and woke up with a sore head, if you know what I mean.  I also ate some of the wrong things and my sugar was higher than I wanted it to be this morning, 147.  I’ve been good and keeping it down to almost normal every day, but yesterday I splurged with food, drink and desserts.  Tomorrow though it will be back to what it’s supposed to be, because I’m going to watch everything carefully today.  I guess you could say that is going to be my New Year’s resolution, to get my sugar down to normal so I don’t have to go on medication.

Decided to drop AT&T as my mobile provider.  Just didn’t like their attitude.  They are too inflexible.  My contract is up next month, but they wouldn’t do an override so I could get a new phone, so just decided to drop them altogether.  So I went with Sprint and boy what a debacle that was.  Here’s everything that transpired from last Monday until Thursday evening.

Monday, December 27th.  Went to a local mall and stopped by a Sprint Kiosk and started asking questions.  The young man quoted me some figures and gave me lots of pertinent information that I would definitely be using in the future.  So, I went home, looked at the literature he gave me and decided to call and verify one of the things he told me.  After I verified that information, I told the girl that I was just thinking about switching and she asked if she could call me back on Thursday to see if I had made up my mind.  I told her yes, to call me on Thursday, but on Tuesday, I decided to go for it anyway.  So called and spent 2 hours on the phone with the rep giving and verifying and re-verifying the information several times, making sure that she had both of the numbers involved and to which phones they were to be activated on.  Seemed that everything was a go.  Next day I get an e-mail confirming the order and I saw that only one of the numbers was being ported over correctly and the other one, my number, was not and they were assigning a completely different number to my phone.  I called immediately and they told me that it was too late, the phones had already shipped.  I told her that if I didn’t get the correct number for my phone ported over, I was going to cancel the whole deal.  She said she would make sure it was done right.  Thursday, I get the phones delivered and to make sure I got it done right, I went to a local Sprint store and had them activate both phones.  The girl there, Marisol, got the one phone activated, but said that the other one, with the correct number would be activated within two hours.  Well, it wasn’t, so I called and talked to the girl in number porting and had to explain the entire situation to her again and she said she would take care of it and that the phone would be activated by 7:13 P.M. Central time.  Well, needless to say, it wasn’t so I called again and spent over an hour explaining the problem yet again to another rep.  As you can understand, I was extremely irritated by this time and about ready to throw in the towel and cancel the whole deal.  Well, that last rep I talked to couldn’t help me even after trying several things, so she transferred me to technical help, and that lovely lady had me all set up in no time at all.  Now my question is, why in the hell didn’t that happen from the very beginning?  And my first question is, after all the verification I did on two different phone calls, wasn’t my phone number done correctly?  I finally got it fixed, thanks to the lovely lady in Tech Help.  I just hope that any future customer service is not handled this shoddily.  I did rush a letter off to Sprint, complaining about the poor service and one of the managers is supposed to call me back in 24 to 48 hours.  Well, we’ll see if that happens and if it doesn’t, they’ll get another ear-full.

Anyway, I hope all of you had a fantastic Christmas and that your New Year’s Eve celebration went off without a hitch.

Anyone else just tired?

Is anyone else just tired of all the drama that surrounds our everyday lives?  I am.  Getting tired of the Federal/State/Local/ governments telling me what I should or should not eat.  I’m referring to the stuff going on out in California (the whole state is weird anyway) especially in San Francisco about wanting to ban McDonalds Happy Meals because of the obesity problem in the U.S.  They are going about it all wrong.  They need to spend their time and money in re-educating the parents on how to say NO once in a while.  It’s really the parents fault that their kids are obese.  The kids eat what is given to them and if the lazy parents just want to shut the kids up, they’ll give in to them and stuff their little mouths with McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s, etc.  I’m not saying that any of those fast food restaurants are bad, in moderation of course.  But a treat once in a while, like every couple of weeks is NOT going to make your child obese.

They also need to educate the parents that once they get married and have children, it’s no longer just about them, it’s about family.  Spending quality time with the family is of the utmost importance.  Once that stops that’s when the problems will start showing up.  Parents not being around to supervise their children’s eating habits is one of the major causes for their obesity.  Kids are not going to help themselves to the healthy food, they are going to go for what they like, not what’s good for them.  So parents, make sure you are around when your children are hungry and prepare something for them, and I don’t mean just opening a can either.  Actually cook something.  My goodness, what a radical idea.  I know what a lot of folks are going to say.  My job takes up all my time, or my social life takes up all my time.  Well, when you have a family, they are to come first.  Make them your job and your social life.

Sorry for the rant.  I was going to write about other things that are drama filled, but don’t want to turn this into a book.  But if you finished reading this, thank you.  If you agree or don’t agree I would appreciate it if you would comment, please.  And NO I don’t have any children.  Surprised smile
