Well, here we are, 2014

So, did everyone have a nice New Year celebration?  I hope yours was uneventful and all arrived home safe and sound.  Mine was nice.  Spent it with my extended family.  Managed to get home safely by 1:00 A.M. in spite of the snow that was falling.  Only one thing marred the evening for me and that was that the person I care most about in this world didn’t even bother to wish me a Happy New Year.  To be honest, I was very depressed because of it and some pretty crazy thoughts passed through my mind.  I’m glad I hadn’t drank any more than I had because God only knows what would have happened.  I know, the world was not going to come to an end, but it’s the little things like that that show that someone really cares about you.  I said “Happy New Year” and it was ignored and it hurt, what can I say.

Anyway, today it is snowing like crazy here and we already have about 6” and the possibility of another 2 to 6+ inches could fall by tomorrow afternoon.  Mother nature really must be mad at us for some reason.  Oh, wait, that the “global warming” everyone is talking about.  Yeah, that’s why they are stuck in the ice in the Antarctic and can’t get out.  I never did believe it and attribute what is happening to normal weather cycles, not global warming.

Ok, hope everyone has a fantastic 2014 and everyone’s lives are filled with much Health, Happiness and Prosperity.

God bless you all.

Well, holidays are finally over with

Christmas and New Year’s have finally come and gone.  Christmas eve we just stayed home, just like on Christmas Day.  Very uneventful.  New Year’s Eve was spent with family and friends in Whiting, IN and we had a wonderful time.  Drank a few too many “Palomas” though and woke up with a sore head, if you know what I mean.  I also ate some of the wrong things and my sugar was higher than I wanted it to be this morning, 147.  I’ve been good and keeping it down to almost normal every day, but yesterday I splurged with food, drink and desserts.  Tomorrow though it will be back to what it’s supposed to be, because I’m going to watch everything carefully today.  I guess you could say that is going to be my New Year’s resolution, to get my sugar down to normal so I don’t have to go on medication.

Decided to drop AT&T as my mobile provider.  Just didn’t like their attitude.  They are too inflexible.  My contract is up next month, but they wouldn’t do an override so I could get a new phone, so just decided to drop them altogether.  So I went with Sprint and boy what a debacle that was.  Here’s everything that transpired from last Monday until Thursday evening.

Monday, December 27th.  Went to a local mall and stopped by a Sprint Kiosk and started asking questions.  The young man quoted me some figures and gave me lots of pertinent information that I would definitely be using in the future.  So, I went home, looked at the literature he gave me and decided to call and verify one of the things he told me.  After I verified that information, I told the girl that I was just thinking about switching and she asked if she could call me back on Thursday to see if I had made up my mind.  I told her yes, to call me on Thursday, but on Tuesday, I decided to go for it anyway.  So called and spent 2 hours on the phone with the rep giving and verifying and re-verifying the information several times, making sure that she had both of the numbers involved and to which phones they were to be activated on.  Seemed that everything was a go.  Next day I get an e-mail confirming the order and I saw that only one of the numbers was being ported over correctly and the other one, my number, was not and they were assigning a completely different number to my phone.  I called immediately and they told me that it was too late, the phones had already shipped.  I told her that if I didn’t get the correct number for my phone ported over, I was going to cancel the whole deal.  She said she would make sure it was done right.  Thursday, I get the phones delivered and to make sure I got it done right, I went to a local Sprint store and had them activate both phones.  The girl there, Marisol, got the one phone activated, but said that the other one, with the correct number would be activated within two hours.  Well, it wasn’t, so I called and talked to the girl in number porting and had to explain the entire situation to her again and she said she would take care of it and that the phone would be activated by 7:13 P.M. Central time.  Well, needless to say, it wasn’t so I called again and spent over an hour explaining the problem yet again to another rep.  As you can understand, I was extremely irritated by this time and about ready to throw in the towel and cancel the whole deal.  Well, that last rep I talked to couldn’t help me even after trying several things, so she transferred me to technical help, and that lovely lady had me all set up in no time at all.  Now my question is, why in the hell didn’t that happen from the very beginning?  And my first question is, after all the verification I did on two different phone calls, wasn’t my phone number done correctly?  I finally got it fixed, thanks to the lovely lady in Tech Help.  I just hope that any future customer service is not handled this shoddily.  I did rush a letter off to Sprint, complaining about the poor service and one of the managers is supposed to call me back in 24 to 48 hours.  Well, we’ll see if that happens and if it doesn’t, they’ll get another ear-full.

Anyway, I hope all of you had a fantastic Christmas and that your New Year’s Eve celebration went off without a hitch.

Well, the year is almost over

Christmas came and went and was actually very uneventful, as it has been every year for quite some time.  We were supposed to go to Whiting, IN to Jeronimo’s nephew’s house but they had to cancel because supposedly his nephew had to work.  Don’t know if I believe that or not because another brother of his went out to their sisters house and I think maybe that’s where they went.  But if they did, that’s fine with me, it’s just that they didn’t have to make up a story.  Why can’t people be honest about things.  I am and that’s why they don’t like me because I voice my opinion and when I see something I don’t like I tell them about it.  Am I wrong?  Don’t know and I don’t really care.  I’m too damned old to care about silly things like that anymore.  I guess I’m the male counterpart of Maxine.  LOL

Anyway, Jeronimo and I just stayed home, drank a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc from Chile and ate tostadas of tinga, which is chicken in a chipotle sauce and oh my goodness is it delicious.  I also make it with shrimp and that’s even better.  Then after dinner, we opened our gifts.  We don’t exchange too much, just one or two little things.  Neither one of us really needs or wants anything special and if we do, we go out and buy it.  And with the economy the way it is, it gets harder and harder to do anything anymore.  Gas has gone sky high again and the other day I saw in one of the local stores a case of Coke was $8.99.  My goodness, who in the heck can afford that?  I got 5-12 packs for $10.00 the other day and that was a deal.  Now this week, you buy 2 and get 3 free.  Now THAT’S a real deal so will be going to stock up.

Don’t have any plans yet for New Year’s Eve.  Don’t even know if I want to go out, what with the crazies roaming the streets.  And if I do go out, I won’t be drinking much because I’m always the designated driver.  Think I’ll switch that around this year and make Jeronimo the designated driver.  I’m sure he won’t like that at all.  Too bad, start the new year off right.  LOL

Hope everyone has a very Happy, Healthy, Prosperous New Year.  Please be safe.

Catching up a little bit

Woke up to a light dusting of snow this morning.  They are predicting anywhere from 2” to 7”, depending on which TV or radio station I happen to be listening to.  But then how many times are they right?  Guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Have been doing very well with my sugar testing.  I’ve lost weight and my daily sugar count is getting closer and closer to target.  I’m bound and determined to control it with diet and exercise.  Two days ago it was at 113, but then yesterday morning it was at 139, which isn’t too awfully bad, I don’t think.  And then this morning it was at 127.  I won’t be satisfied until it’s constantly at 100 or below.  But the important thing is that I know I can control it and the second benefit is the weight loss.  I am now down to a size 40 waist and even though it’s only a drop from 42, it’s a major accomplishment for me.  I still have one pair of slacks that are 38 and I’m hoping that by next week, I’ll be able to fit into them without having to struggle.  Dieting isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.  I quite smoking cold turkey, so I know I can stop eating just as easily.  Well, I don’t mean stop eating all together, just reducing the portion size and content.  I’m also taking additional fiber, which helps.

Christmas is right around the corner and I got my decorations up.  Just seems that Christmas doesn’t have the same importance anymore.  Both parents are gone and the brothers who are left are all off in other states doing their own thing, so it’s just me and Jerónimo and we don’t even exchange gifts anymore.  We used to, but we both have everything we need, so we’re going out today to get ourselves some new colognes.  We both have a passion for men’s colognes.  We only have about 25 different ones already.  Hey, some people collect other things, we collect colognes.

Well, I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous New year.

Merry Christmas

Are you ready for Christmas?

I’m not, but then I never am.  LOL  Did anyone go out shopping today, Black Friday?  I was going to try to get to Kohl’s but didn’t feel like getting up at 2:00 A.M.  I really don’t need to buy anything anyway, so it would have been just to check out the crowds.  I know, that’s crazy, but then no one ever said I was all there.Surprised smile

So, did everyone have a nice Thanksgiving?  You didn’t overeat did you?  Now that’s a crazy question.  Of course you overate, just like I did.  Well, I didn’t really overeat as much as I normally would on Thanksgiving because I’m trying to lose weight and since I was diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic, really need to be careful.  I’m trying to control it so I don’t have to go on medication or injections.  I mean, it wouldn’t be the end of the world, but if I can avoid it, I will.  I know a lot of diabetics lead very normal lives.

Other than that, there’s nothing really going on of any consequence.  I know I write a boring blog, but I know a lot of others that are worse.

Hope everyone has a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous New Year.
